Peter Lavelle is Associate Professor of History at the University of Connecticut (USA). He is the author of The Profits of Nature: Colonial Development and the Quest for Resources in Nineteenth Century China (Columbia University Press, 2020), and he has published articles on environmental and agricultural history in China during the long nineteenth century. His current research focuses on the history of agricultural science in China from the 1840s to the 1930s. He received his doctorate from Cornell University (USA).
