Le Nichibunken (
International Research Center for Japanese Studies) de Kyôto, institut de recherches partenaire de l’EHESS, offre à des doctorants, post-doctorants et chercheurs qui se spécialisent dans des travaux sur le Japon, des possibilités de séjours d’études au sein de cette institution :
1) Séjour de trois mois pour permettre l’achèvement d’une thèse de doctorat.
2) Programme de recherches post-doctoral, avec rattachement au Nichibunken.
3) Des programmes d’accueil de chercheurs titulaires.
Les différents programmes sont détaillés ci-dessous en anglais. Les dossiers doivent être, selon les cas, déposés entre septembre et octobre.
1. Nichibunken Academic Encouragement Award (Program for Doctoral Students)
The Award is designed to honor outstanding research in Japanese Studies from an international perspective and foster the next generation of researchers in Japanese Studies.
Application Deadline: September 30th, 2024
Eligibility:
Eligible candidates are limited to doctoral students recommended by overseas institutions holding academic exchange agreements with Nichibunken or International member institutions (Full member) of the Consortium for Global Japanese Studies.
Overview of Support for Awardees:
The support is provided to aid awardees who are doctoral students intending to produce a doctoral dissertation. Awardees may spend up to 90 days pursuing research at Nichibunken. Awardees are granted funding that covers their airfares (economy class) for their arrival and departure, as well as accommodation and per diem allowances during their stay.

2. JF-Nichibunken Fellowship Program (Program for Post-doctoral Researchers)
To promote Japanese Studies overseas, jointly organized by the Japan Foundation (JF) and Nichibunken, this program provides post-doctoral researchers in the field of Japanese Studies with opportunities to conduct research in Japan while belonging to Nichibunken. Fellows will also be expected to gain experience as project facilitators through operation and management work at various meetings or workshops, and to form and expand networks with people involved in international exchange.
Application Period: September 1st to December 1st, 2024
Eligibility:
Doctoral degree holders who had their doctoral degree conferred less than six years before April 1st, 2025

3. In addition to the above two programs, Nichibunken has a program that is not limited to young researchers. This Visiting Research Scholar program provides opportunities to stay at Nichibunken and conduct joint research in collaboration with our faculty members. We are currently accepting applications for this program for 2026-2027.
